Who are Mangosteen?
Mangosteen is the only exclusively vegetarian and vegan restaurant in Portsmouth which opened its doors last year. The restaurant was founded by Dr Nazmin Akthar, a local GP and nutritionist. You will be aware that veganism is no longer a fad. It is here to sustain, grow and be largely accepted. The plethora of options for vegan food and beverages have become common and therefore we have tapped into this niche market. In addition to showcasing how versatile, wholesome, nutritious and delicious vegan food really is, our deeper aim is to promote health and conservation.
As you will know a well-balance vegetarian diet is associated with a reduced risk of many chronic diseases. It is also common knowledge that by simply reducing our meat consumption we emit less greenhouse gas; reduced water consumption; preserve species; and help mitigate climate change and combat world hunger. We have spent months perfecting the menu to provide the best culinary experience yet with negligible waste.
The partners come from a lineage of restauranteur, their families having multiple eateries in Portsmouth and surrounding areas. They have huge depth of knowledge on how the food industry works. One of the partners, Shahad, is also property a educator and investor.
